Wiltshire U17 took on a strong Surrey 2 side in a highly competitive fixture, with matches played across mixed doubles, singles, and doubles disciplines.
The match began with the mixed doubles, where Wiltshire showed promising form. Several pairings produced close contests, including a hard-fought three-game victory (21–18 in the decider), demonstrating composure under pressure despite facing well-organised opposition.
In the boys’ singles, Wiltshire delivered some of their strongest performances of the day. Players showed confidence and control, securing important wins, including a convincing 21–13 result. One match extended to three games, highlighting the determination and resilience within the squad.
The girls’ singles proved more evenly matched. Wiltshire players battled well to secure key victories, including a solid 21–15 win, while also pushing opponents in closely contested rallies. The standard of play remained high throughout, with competitive exchanges in every match.
Boys’ doubles matches were particularly exciting, with Wiltshire pairs combining well and showing strong teamwork. A notable straight-games win stood out, alongside another match that went to three games, reflecting the intensity and quality of the contest.
In the girls’ doubles, Wiltshire demonstrated great fighting spirit. One match featured a dramatic momentum shift across three games, underlining the team’s resilience and ability to respond to pressure situations.
This was a closely fought fixture against a strong Surrey 2 side. Wiltshire can take positives from a number of strong individual and pair performances, particularly in the boys’ events. Several matches going to three games reflected just how competitive the tie was.
The team showed great effort, determination, and encouraging progress, providing a solid foundation to build on for future fixtures.
